Spiritual Suicide

By: Linda Johnson Belfrey

On last night in prayer there was a sudden and swift urgency to intercede for believers in spiritual warfare. Yielding to the Holy Ghost to have his way, as I came against the camp of the enemy, binding up the strong man in Jesus name, coming against spiritual abortions, every evil influence and against demonic strongholds. But louder than anything were the two words Spiritual Suicide, which has stricken the house of God in various ways in epidemic proportions.

I inquired of the Lord to give me revelation on how this takes place. This is a small disclosure of the revelation I received:

Delay. Medically speaking in the physical realm if we continue to “put off” or “delay” certain physical conditions we are destined to die. Spiritually speaking it’s the same principle. In areas where God has given us a charge (and this includes a vast majority of the people of God), we hear the word, consider it, think about it, pray about it, discuss it, pick it up, set it down, convince ourselves that we’ll do it tomorrow; only causing further delay; since tomorrow religiously turns into the next day, and the next, and so on and so forth, because…

Your own delay bore eventual death by smothering, ultimately killing the charge. Your Death certificate reads as the cause of death: Spiritual Suicide caused by smothering.

A final word concerning delay. Prayer is always in order, however, accept it or not, some things he instructs us to do, we are required to move with haste. Such as when the Israelites made preparation for the Passover in Exodus 12, they were instructed to be prepared as to move suddenly and quickly. This is not the time to get religious with prayers and fasting. As believers we are admonished to live a lifestyle of prayer and consecration. This act alone allows us to be ready, like the people of old, to move in haste at a moment’s notice. Spiritual RX: Yes, prayer is always in order, but prolonged prayer can cause delay. Remember the Lord himself told Moses to quit praying and take action! We must become sensitive of timing and seasons of a thing, bearing in mind that our time frame in wanting something to happen is not necessarily the Lord’s timing, Isaiah 55.

Words. We can choose to speak life or death over our lives and situations. We kill our destiny because of our confession, our words we release over ourselves. The church doesn’t have to speak against you, neither does the devil, nor the sister or your brother, you curse and bring death upon yourself when you don’t nourish and speak life as it concerns you. Yes, I know how to speak a word in and over your life.

But remember nobody (save the Lord,) can speak over and encourage your heart as accurately as you can. If no one is in your amen corner, you speak and say amen to yourself, if no one believes you can do it, you have to know that you know that you can. Philippians reminds us to think on these things, what things? Things that are good, lovely, honest, pure, and of a good report.

Your Death certificate reads as the cause of death: Spiritual Suicide caused by self inflicted Words that caused death. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue,” Prov. 18.

Beloved, regardless of what you’re facing, today I want you to speak a life giving word over yourself, over your destiny. Now speak, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord,” Psalm 118. Spiritual RX: Omit using words that penetrate the heart, inciting spiritual heart attacks or negative words that induces spiritual choking robbing you of vital spiritual nutrients and strength required for the journey. Words matter. Love yourself, speak life!

Lethal Weapons. It’s not enough to know your traps, but we have to flee the bait and traps designed to cause; the key word here is continual tripping, falls, guilt, sin, condemnation and backsliding. This differs from saint-to-saint ranging from fornication and adultery, to addictions from sleeping pills, Internet, and smoking. Watch out for the innocent bait…worldly music (with nice lyrics), inappropriate lustful TV programs, cozy-consistent relational company with unsaved men/women, and the like. These demonic weapons are so lethal that I equate it to poison. Like poison, once consumed or digested, it carries an ability to take us out! It also causes us to become lukewarm Christians, lose our effectiveness, our witness, causes us to sit on God, and to silence us. Just ask Samson, (when he shook, his God-given power he thought was present was gone!) Spiritual RX: Put on the whole armor of God, Ephesians 6. We don’t have to be in bondage. God knows us better than we know ourselves. Seek the Lord and his word; he’ll give you a Word that is potent for you and your situation. If we have a genuine desire or will, God will make a way (of escape.) He caused the Red Sea to open for the Israelites to escape Egyptian bondage.

Your Death certificate reads as the cause of death: Spiritual Suicide caused by Poison.

Doubts and Fears from the spiritual perspective can cause a loss of spiritual power and weakness. If prolonged and not cast out, spiritual paralysis can set in and take a spiral down turn. Physically speaking paralysis is an affect of our body, denoting a deadness or numbness as such physically to the muscle causing it to not behave or operate as it should. If untreated, it can cause damage to the entire body whereas in its extremity, you could potentially be rendered ineffective, useless, or no longer able to operate in the physical man as you should. In the spiritual, paralysis denotes a malfunctioning as well. The enemy has tricked, stripped and robbed us of our rights and authority as believers due to doubts and fears. Simply put, unable to trust the word of the Lord in our situations. Causing us to not only cooperate with the voice of the enemy, but powerless to operate in the things of the spirit as we should. Why, because numbness or deadness made penetration into your spiritual system. Let me remind you, doubts and fears were among one of the reasons that the first generation of Israelites died off in the wilderness not being able to enter into the Promised Land, symbolic of their destiny. They killed their own destiny. It was their choice to trust God for deliverance and provision or to not trust him.

Your Death certificate reads as the cause of death: Spiritual Suicide caused by refusal to believe, doubts and fears.

You may recall 10 spies had a bad scouting report, but the other two spies (Joshua and Caleb,) despite the giants and how doubtful things looked and appeared yet declared, “we can possess the land.” Spiritual RX: Take on the spirit of Joshua and Caleb rejecting doubt and fear.

When fertile rich plants remain in areas that are not conducive to growth or environments that will sustain them, they are destined to die. The same holds true for you and me. Spiritually speaking, suicides don’t just happen out of the blue, they are brought about usually by a culmination of factors like our words, doubts, fears, delays, disobedience, stress, disappointments, unrepentant hearts, unforgiveness, rebellion, schemes of the enemy, oppression, and the like. Having said this, let us like plants, strive to remain in environments and conditions mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally and otherwise, whereby we would always be poised to choose life!
